About Hockessin, DE - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Hockessin, Delaware is a growing community with about 13,600 residents. It is found in New Castle County, and its name derives from the Lenape word “hokesa”, which means “pieces of bark.” This community traces its roots back to 1688, and the first Roman Catholic Church in the state was found here. Today, Hockessin is a prominent bedroom community for commuters into Wilmington and Philadelphia, and there are also several operational mushroom farms located here.
There are several interesting things to see and do in Hockessin. Outdoor recreation is especially popular at the Mt. Cuba Center and the Ashland Nature Center. The Marshall Steam Museum is a noteworthy stop for auto enthusiasts, while families with older kids might prefer an excursion on the Rail Explorers. Hockessin is also home to many popular area restaurants, including George & Sons Seafood, the House of William and Mary, and Lettie’s Kitchen, as well as shopping destinations like Dover Saddlery, Jennifer’s Bridal, and Everything But the Kitchen Sink.
The Hockessin region is found between humid subtropical and temperate climate zones. The area experiences four distinct seasons throughout the year, so adequate climate controls are a must. During the summer, conditions are hot and humid, and average daily highs are in the mid-80s. To stay comfortable, residents rely on their central air conditioners, and these systems will also improve indoor air quality.
The winter months in this part of Delaware are cool to cold, with average daily highs of about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Each year the community receives an average of 20 inches of snow, although severe storms are possible. Overnight lows fall into the 20s, so it is crucial that residents have access to a gas or electric furnace with a good AFUE rating. Not only will these systems keep indoor temperatures comfortable, but they can also keep home heating costs more affordable.
